Chase Center (formerly Bank One Center) is a 60-story postmodern skyscraper located at 1717 Main Street in downtown Dallas, Texas (USA). Standing at a structural height of 787 feet (240 m), it is the third tallest skyscraper in the city of Dallas. (If one were to exclude antennas and spires, it would be the second tallest.) It is also the sixth tallest building in Texas and the 46th-tallest building in the United States. The building was designed by Philip Johnson & John Burgee and was completed in 1987. The structure has 1,500,000 square feet (100,000 ) of office space.

[edit] History

Chase Center was built to be the headquarters of MCorp Bank, which had their headquarters in the nearby Mercantile National Bank Building and accompaning complex buildings since the Main Tower was completed in 1942. The building was originally called Momentum Place and was completed in August of 1987. MCorp Bank took up 600,000 square feet of the space. However, the bank was on the verge of collapse, as the economic downturn of the late 1980s and the savings and loan scandal would be the end of MCorp Bank. Bank One would dissolve the bank and the building would become entirely leaseable class A office space. Due to the economic downturn, this was the last high-rise to be completed in downtown until the ground breaking of One Arts Plaza, which will be the headquarters of 7-11, in 2005.
