In 1869 the Charlotte and South Carolina Railroad and the Columbia and Augusta Railroad merged to form the Charlotte, Columbia and Augusta Railroad. This resulted in a railroad with a 191 mile line between Augusta, GA and Charlotte, NC. This railroad became part of the Richmond and Danville Railroad starting in 1878 and then the Southern Railway in 1894.
