Charlie Mopps

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charlie Mopps is the mythical inventor of beer, as described by the drinking song "Beer, Beer, Beer" There is a myspace fan page honouring Charlie Mopps at http://www.myspace.com/charliemoppsfans.

A long time ago, way back in history
When all there was to drink was nothing but cups of tea
Along came a man by the name of Charlie Mopps
And he invented a wonderful drink and he made it out of hopps

(Chorus)
He might have been an admiral, a sultan, or a king
And to his praises we shall always sing
Look what he has done for us, he's filled us up with cheer
Our lord bless Charlie Mopps,
the man who invented beer beer beer beer...

Jury's Pub, the Clancy's Bar, the Hole in the Wall as well
one thing you can be sure of, it's Charlie's beer they sell

Chorus

40 pints of wallop a day will keep away the quacks.

Chorus

This song is popular at Renaissance Fairs throughout the United States and Great Britain

There is a rendition of the song in the 2004 PlayStation 2/Xbox game The Bard's Tale. It is sung by three inebriated regulars at the pub in the first area visited. During the course of the song, the Bard's attitude humorously changes from finding the song moronic at first, to being caught up in the tune by the second repetition of the chorus, to fully joining the spirited cheering by the end.
