Charles de Biencourt de Saint-Just
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charles de Biencourt de Saint-Just (b. 1591? – d. 1623) is best known as the successor to his father, Jean de Biencourt de Poutrincourt et de Saint-Just as commander of the settlement at Port-Royal and the governor of Acadia from his father's death in 1615 until his own death. Because of his father's frequent trips to France, he had been previously acting in that capacity.
Both Charles and his father had a vision of a flourishing agricultural settlement in Acadia. If it had not been for a number of problems beyond their control, they would have achieved greater success. As it was, they laid the groundwork for Charles de Saint-Étienne de la Tour and others to continue the growth.
