At the end of the 1990 season, Colorado played in the Orange Bowl game on January 1, 1991, defeating Notre Dame University by a score of 10-9, which propelled Colorado to a controversial share of the mythical national championship of Division I-A college football for 1990. Charles S. Johnson was named MVP of the 1991 Orange Bowl.
