Charles R. Garry was a lawyer who represented a number of prominent radical groups in the 60s and 70s. He represented the Black Panthers, Vietnam War protesters, and was legal counsel to Jim Jones of the People’s Temple. He barely survived his visit to Jonestown in 1978 and escaped the mass suicide and murder by hiding in the jungle.

He died in October 1991 of a stroke at the age of 82.[citation needed]
