Charles J. Ferguson

Charles J. "Charlie" Ferguson (born: April 17, 1863 in Charlottesville, Virginia; died: April 29, 1888 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was a popular 19th Century Major League Baseball pitcher who played his entire career, 1884-1887, for the Philadelphia Quakers (who later became the Philadelphia Phillies in 1890). Known as a great athlete in his day, he would often play second base when not pitching.
On August 29, 1885, he pitched a no-hitter against the Providence Grays, a 1-0 victory.
Before the 1888 baseball season, he contracted typhoid fever and subsequently died. He was laid to rest at Maplewood Cemetery in Charlottesville, Virginia.
