Charles Humphrey Atherton

Charles Humphrey Atherton (14 August 1773-8 January 1853) was an American Federalist Representative from New Hampshire.
Born in Amherst, New Hampshire on 14 August 1773, Atherton graduated from Harvard University in 1794. He was admitted to the bar in 1797 and started practicing law in Amherst.
He was elected and served as a Federalist Representative to the Fourteenth United States Congress and served from 4 March 1815 to 3 March 1817. He declined to run for reelection in 1816 and instead served as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1823 to 1839. He resumed the practive in law after leaving the State House and died in Amherst 8 January 1853.
He is the father of Charles Gordon Atherton.
