Charles Elachi

Charles Elachi (Arabic :شارل عشي) is the Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), located in Pasadena, California. He has held this position since May 1, 2001 and also holds professorships in electrical engineering and planetary science at Caltech.
Elachi was born in Lebanon on April 18, 1947. He graduated from the Grenoble Polytechnic Institute in 1968 and received his M.S. and Ph.D in electrical sciences from the Caltech. He later received an MBA from USC (1978) and an M.S. degree in geology from UCLA (1983).
He is a fellow of IEEE and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics.
