Charles. E. Morse

Charles E. Morse (Born: France May 5, 1841 - Died: Bath, NY August 31, 1920) American Civil War soldier and Medal of Honor recipient (Date of issue: 14 January 1890).
A sergeant in Company "I" of the 62nd New York State Volunteers (Anderson Zouaves), was awarded his Medal of Honor for gallantry at the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia, on the 5th May 1864. His citation states:
"Voluntarily rushed back into the enemy's lines, took the colors from the color sergeant, who was mortally wounded, and, although himself wounded, carried them through the fight."
Private James R. Evans of Company "H" of the same regiment also received the Medal of Honor for his actions on the same day to rescue the regimental flag from a fallen color bearer.
