Charles-Philippe d'Orléans
Charles-Philippe d'Orléans

Charles-Philippe Marie Louis d'Orléans, Petit-Fils de France (grandson of France), Prince d'Orléans, Duc d'Anjou, was born in Paris, France on March 3, 1973. He is the eldest son of Michel Joseph Benoît Marie d'Orleans, Fils de France, Comte d'Evreux, and his wife the former Béatrice Pasquier de Franclieu. His paternal grandfather was the late Henri, Count of Paris who was generally recognized as the rightful claimant to the French Throne with the title Henri VI. As such, Charles-Philippe would have the status of Petit-Fils de France with the style of Royal Highness.

On December 8, 2004, he received the title Duc d'Anjou (Duke of Anjou in English) from his uncle Henry, Count of Paris, Duke of France, Head of the Royal House of France who is the current Orléanist Pretender to the French Throne as Henri VII. Prior to the conferral of the title, the King of Spain was asked, and gave, his agreement to this action by his cousin, the Count of Paris. The Duke of Anjou is currently the Grand Master of the Military and Hospitaller Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem, which has had its legitimate status as a quasi-independent chivalric order confirmed by receiving the protection of the Royal House of France. The Prince's ascension as Grand Master is disputed by other bodies of the same name. However, the present Constitutional Charter of his order appears to establish it on an entirely different basis than other "Lazarite" organizations as a semi-independent order of chivalry firmly under the protection and, indeed, control of the Orleans branch of the Royal House of France under conditions which may one day make this Order of St. Lazarus acceptable to the Vatican.

Charles Philippe recently founded the St Lazare Foundation financed by the World Society, an international think tank whose mission, inspired by SAR le Comte de Paris, is to rationalise the problem of the planet's future needs for water.

"The future belongs to those who invest in it. The future is water. The members of the World Society are among ‘the happy few’ who will become key players in the future of our planet." (quote from World Society website) The concern of Count of Paris for the world's future water supplies appears to be the inspiration for this project.
