Chapel Island First Nation

Chapel Island First Nation (Míkmaq name: Potlotek) is a Míkmaq first nation on Chapel Island of Bras d'Or Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada, with a population of 576.

The spiritual capital of the Míkmaq nation is the gathering place of the Míkmaq Grand Council, Mniku or Chapel Island in the Bras d'Or Lakes of Cape Breton Island. The island also the site of the St. Anne Mission, an important pilgrimage site for the Míkmaq. The island has been declared a historic site.

Chapel Island POTLOTEK

Chapel Island First Nation is composed of Chapel Island and Malagawatch. Chapel Island #5 is 592.5 hectares in size, located 68.8 km. southwest of Sydney, and was established August 1, 1792-1834. Malagawatch #4 is 661.3 hectares in size, with 20 per cent or 132.26 hectares held by each of the following five reserves: Chapel Island, Membertou, Eskasoni, Wagmatcook, and Whycocomagh.. As of April 2004, the population was 576, with 439 living on-reserve and 137 living off-reserve.

A very sports orientated community with a Hockey Team "The Cyclones". A Basketball Team Aptly named POTLOTEK. Four Fastpitch teams, two men's teams "Reds" and "Blues" one junior team "Potlotek Army" (named after a street gang in Poltotek), and a Female team "Hunnies".

All year round sometype of tournament is offered from physical sports to inside games like pool and Texas hold'em.
