Chaos Faction is a popular online fighting flash game created by EON, or Jorj, from Dissolute Productions. It can be looked at as combination of the games Super Smash Brothers and Cel Damage. The objective of the game is to fight other characters to unlock those characters and the weapons that correspond with each character. The characters appear as round spheres, a face, two smaller spheres for hands, and two ovals for feet. Chaos Faction can be played in three modes: Campaign, Deathmatch, and Survival.

[edit] Characters

A player may choose to use any character they have unlocked to fight other characters. The characters Gorilli, Mechalo, and Cowboy, the characters from the first match in the "Easy" , "Difficult" and "Hard" settings, are given at the beginning of the game. A player may customize his or her own character by mixing the body parts of different characters, such as placing Pyragma's eyes on an Eskimo body, who also has Mr. Smith hands and feet. The name of the character is created from combining the names of the characters that body parts have been taken from. For example, Dynasty with Pyragma's eyes would be named Pynasty, and Captain Black with Mr. Smith's eyes would be Mr. Black. Three special characters can be unlocked after defeating all four levels marked "easy", all four levels marked "medium," then all of the levels.

[edit] Levels

Some levels may have a hazard to make the battle more fun, yet all levels have a pitfall off screen where a character will instantly die if they fall off.

[edit] Weapons and Powerups

While combating an enemy, weapons will drop in boxes from the top of the screen. There are a few weapons given at the beginning of the game, and the rest can be unlocked by defeating the different characters. All the weapons have a limited number of uses, and some may only be used once. Some weapons are hard to use and will take practice to use correctly, such as the mouse trap. Some other weapons, such as the Cannon or Baseball Bat, can be used very easily.

[edit] List of Weapons

These weapons are given at the beginning of the game.

  • Uzi---fast firing but weak gun
  • Sniper rifle---medium power gun, takes a while to reload
  • Bolt gun---fast firing weak gun, similar to Uzi
  • Shotgun---strong gun that usually blows the victim clear off the screen
  • Bowling ball---when used, any character on screen who touches it will be bowled off the screen
  • Plank---simple melee weapon, medium power
  • Trampoline---not really a weapon, one can set them and bounce on it until it disappears
  • Cherry bomb---timed bombs, any character within the blast of the radius will suffer damage the closer the more damage taken.
  • Baseball bat---melee weapon that knocks the victim clear off the screen if aimed well
  • Crossbow---high power weapon that knocks the victim back
  • Mallet---squishes the victim flat, rendering them immobile. Also deals high damage
  • Stick Bombs---explode on contact with a platform. Deals high damage
  • Chainsaw---high power melee weapon. Any character carrying a chainsaw wears a mask
  • Mouse traps---set on platforms, any player who walks into one is stuck and becomes an open target

These weapons must be unlocked by beating each level.

  • Poison darts---life will continuously be drained over time when shot by one, also slows the player down and decreases their jump height. However, if a health powerup is used, the player will return to normal
  • RPG---fires a missile at the enemy. If shot too close to the target, the deployer will be killed too
  • Magic--- The first attack vaporizes the enemy, the second stuns the closest enemy then destroys every character on screen. The player also becomes temporarily invincible
  • .357 Magnum---high power gun with that knocks back the victim
  • Taser---auto aiming gun. Victim's that have been stunned by a taser are immobile
  • Homing missile---automatically searches for any nearby character on the screen, even the deployer can be hit
  • Ninja stars---swift medium power projectiles. The second attack auto aims
  • Atom bomb---when deployed, the timer counts down from 10, then destroys everything and everybody except for those invincible or is off the screen

Powerups will also drop from the top of the screen. Powerups can increase character's jump height, run speed, grant the character another life, replenish their life, and above all, give temporary invincibility.

[edit] Modes of Play

The three modes of play appear for selection right after selecting "Start" and are described below.

[edit] Campaign

In campaign mode, a player must use the characters they have to defeat every level. Every level contains a new character and a new weapon. The character can be used for later fights, and the new weapon will have a chance to drop from the top from any fight. After the player has finished four stages of the same skill level the fifth will be unlocked, except the last level in the Hard category; to unlock this, you must complete all other levels. The player and his opponent both have 5 lives, and the person who survives wins. If the player loses, they may try again until they defeat the enemy. Campaign mode determines your weapon limitations for the two other modes.

[edit] Deathmatch

In deathmatch mode, the player customizes the entire fight. There can be a maximum of 6 characters on the screen, including the player. The 6 characters can be split into teams. The intelligence of the opponents can also be customized. The player can choose the method of winning: most kills after a span of time, the first to a number of kills, or a stock of lives for every character. The player can also choose which weapons they do NOT want to show up during the fight, but are limited to the ones unlocked. The drop rate of weapons and powerups can also be customized.

[edit] Survival

In survival mode, the character will appear in the first level map, and must keep fighting enemy after enemy, until the player has no more lives. The player has 5 lives at the beginning, and each oncoming enemy has only one life. The opponents progressively get harder after each kill. When the player has no more lives, a score is calculated from the number of enemies killed and the time taken. If the player beats his or her personal high score, they may submit it to the high scores on the main website.

[edit] Level Editor

The level editor feature allows the player to create their own custom maps for use in Deathmatch mode. Platforms are dragged onto the construct area, and the width adjusted. The background image can also be changed. The platforms and backgrounds are based on the levels of the game, and can only be used if the corresponding level has been completed in Campaign mode. There are 4 available save slots in which to save custom levels.
