Channel One Cup (football)

"Channel One" cup is annual commerce football cup, organized by russian TV "Channel One" and Roman Abramovich foundation National Football Academy. The participants are champions and runners up of Russia, Ukraine and Israel. The prizes sum is about 2 million dollars, when the winner get 1 million. The cup rulls obliging to direct at least half of prize to youth football development.

The tournament take place in Israel at January due to fine weather conditions and wide supporters base for Russian and Ukrainian clubs formed by Jewish immigrants from former Soviet Union. The cup used as preparation activity for spring tournaments, however the historical antagonism between Russian and Ukrainian clubs make the matches uncompromised and fans interest very high.

First tournament took place in Tel-Aviv in 2006. Participated: CSKA Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk.

In 2007 format was changed, when Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Tel-Aviv added to the tournament. The teams were divided into two groups and the winners will meet in final.
