In the 1850's, a local chieftain name Channigaraya ruled this town and hence the name become Channarayapatna.
One of the temple from hoysala yuga(Nuggehally) is here tha is near to channarayapatna, it is 18 KM far from here.

Channarayapatna is in Hassan District in Karnataka State, INDIA and located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 827 metres (2716 feet). Channarayapatna is near the famous Jain piligrimage center Shravanabelagola. Channarayapatna is on the National Highway NH48 (from Bangalore to Mangalore) at about 150 Km from Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka. While traveling from Bangalore to Mangalore, Channarayapatna comes after Kunigal and before Hassan.
The weekly market, also called Sante, happens every Saturday and is very popular amongst the locals.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Channarayapatna has a population of 33,240. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Channarayapatna has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 78% and female literacy of 68%. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

There are many temples in the town; the most popular one is Chandramouleshwara temple. It is located in the fort and is a temple with a statue of a standing Shiva.
The Gadderameshwara, and Olegeramma temples are other temples to visit. A carnival is held yearly in the month of November at the last mentioned temple.
Nuggehally----it famous for Laxminarayana temple that was burnt in Hoysala yuga,shravanabelagu is a world famous theoritical statue and hills
