Chana masala

Chana masala (also known as chole or chole masala) is a North Indian dish (originating in Punjab) in which the main ingredient is chickpeas. It is fairly dry and pleasantly spicy with a sour citrus note.

Along with chick peas, the ingredients typically include, onion, chopped tomatoes, turmeric (haldi), coriander seed, garlic, chillies, ginger and garam masala.

In India, it is often eaten with a type of fried bread called bhatura and is known as chole bhature. It is commonly sold by street vendors but also can be found in restaurants.

It is also widely enjoyed in countries outside of India. It is commonly available in British Indian restaurants and is suitable for vegetarians.
