Champion is a supermarket chain that operates in France and is owned by the international retailer Carrefour. The second largest supermarket chain in France, its annual turnover is 12.2 billion euros. There are over 1,000 stores and 60,000 employees. There are also Champion supermarkets in Belgium, Spain, Norway, Poland, Greece, Turkey and Argentina. The chain grew in 1999 by absorbing the Stoc chain. In 2006, Carrefour closed most Brazilian Champion stores and converted the remainder into the Carrefour Bairro banner.
