Chamber Music (Berio)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Composition in three sections for female voice, clarinet, cello and harp of Italian composer Luciano Berio dating 1953.

The text is taken from James Joyce whose work was to be frequent source for Berio. The extremely refined sonorous texture links the resources of the declamatory and vocal tradition of similar works by Bartók with the avant-garde style of writing. But the poetic density and elegant line are characteristic of all Berio's works.
