Chamadorea is a genus in the family Arecaceae. It contains Chamadorea elegans, also known as Neanthe Bella palm, a popular houseplant. This originates from the rainforests of Latin America specifically in the countries of Mexico and Guatemala. This was very popular in Victorian parlors thus has the name parlor palm. This grows to a maximum of six feet or two meters after a very long time. This is a very long lived plant and can be passed from generation to generation. The care for this plant is temperatures of 75F in the day time and 65F at night time. This can tolerate anywhere from 50F to 95F. This plant prefers moderate to high humidity, but will grow in low to average home humidity. Just becareful for spider mites in low humidity. The soil should be kept moderately moist but not soggy. However this palm will tolerate dryness. This can be grown in low light, but it grows best with bright, indirect light. This will tolerate some sun, but not hot midday sun. This palm is easy to grow and can last a long time. Just ask the Victorians.
