ch00n (lowercase and with zeroes representing the letter "O") is an Internet meme predominant on Internet radio, especially those sites featuring trance music. The word, which closely resembles how the Brits say "tune," is often used in IRC chat rooms to favorably refer to a piece of music. In many such forums, the zeroes may act as ratings points with multiple zeroes denoting a particularly high-rated song.
Credit for creation of the term is attributed to a now-defunct Internet site called The Lipstick Girls, and their Internet radio station called Lipstick FM. The term is still used today on that station's spinoffs: Ch00ns, The Phoenix Projects, and stations created to capture Lipstick FM's former glory: Party FM. As station personalities played songs, listeners would often type "ch00n!" to show their approval. The practice became known as ch00ning.
Display properties have been known to include different colors other than normal IRC text. For example, one may receive "the coveted red ch0000000000000000000000000000000000n!" using the color of the text to emphasize the rating.
