[edit] additional verses

Actually it's eight verses I'm going to list here:

[edit] Original Gaidhlig

Sèist:

O Chi, chi mi na mor-bheannaibh;
O Chi, chi mi na cor-bheannaibh;
O Chi, chi mi na coireachan ---
Chi mi na sgoraibh fo cheò.

1. Chi mi gun dàil an t-àit' 's an d'rugadh mi,
Cuirear orm fàilt' a' chanain a thuigeas mi;
Gheibh mi ann aoidh agus gràdh 'n uair ruigeam
Nach reicinn air thunnaichean òir.

Sèist

2. Chi mi a' ghrian an liath nam flaitheanas,
Chi mi 's an iar a ciar 'n uair luidheas i;
Cha 'n ionnan 's mar tha i ghnàth 's a' bhaile so
'N deatach a' falach a glòir.

Sèist

3. Gheibh mi ann ceòl bho eòin na Duthaige,
Ged a tha 'n t-àm thar àm na cuthaige,
Tha smeòraichean ann is annsa guth leam
Na pìob, no fiodhal mar cheòl.

Sèist

4. Gheibh mi le lìontan iasgach sgadain ann,
Gheibh mi le iarraidh bric a's bradain ann;
Na'm faighinn mo mhiann 's ann ann a stadainn,
'S ann ann is fhaid' bhithinn beò.

Sèist

5. Chi mi ann coilltean, chi mi ann doireachan,
Chi mi ann màghan bàn' is torraiche,
Chi mi na féidh air làr nan coireachan,
Falaicht' an trusgan do cheò.

Sèist

6. Beanntaichean àrd' is àillidh leachdainnean,
Sluagh ann an còmhnuidh 's còire cleachdainnean,
'S aotram mo cheum a' leum g'am faicinn,
A's fanaidh mi tachdan le deòin.

Sèist

7. Fàgaidh mi ùpraid, sùrd, a's glagaraich,
Dh'fhaicinn na tìr an cluinnt' a' chagaraich,
Fàgaidh mi cùirtean dùinte, salach,
A dh'amharc air gleannaibh nam bò.

Sèist

8. Fàilt' air na gorm-mheallaibh, tholmach, thulachanach,
Fàilt' air na còrr-bheanna mòra, mullanach,
Fàilt' air na coilltean, fàilt' air na h-uile,
O! 's sona bhi 'fuireach 'n an còir.

[edit] Translation

Chorus:

O I will see, see the great mountains,
O I will see, see the lofty mountains,
O I will see, see the corries,
I will see the peaks under mist.

1. I shall see without delay the place where I was born,
I shall receive a welcome in the language that I understand;
I shall get there a smile and love when I arrive
That I would not trade for tons of gold.

Chorus

2. I shall see the sun grow pale in the sky
I shall see the dusk in the west when it sets;
It won't be like it always is in this town,
The smoke hiding its glory.

Chorus

3. There I shall get music from the birds of my Homeland,
Although the time is after the time of the cuckoo,
Mavises are there and their sound is dearer to me
Than pipe or fiddle for music.

Chorus

4. I shall get herring with fishing-nets there,
I shall get trout and salmon by asking there;
If I were to get my desire it's there I would stay,
And it's there I would live the longest.

Chorus

5. There I shall see woods, there I shall see oak groves,
There I shall see fair and fertile fields,
I shall see the deer on the floor of the corries,
Veiled by a shroud of mist.

Chorus

6. Lofty mountains and resplendent slopes,
The folk there are always of virtuous habits,
Light is my step as I leap up to meet them,
And I shall stay there a while with pleasure.

Chorus

7. I shall leave behind dispute, haste and noise,
To see the land in which whispering is heard,
I shall leave stingy, filthy courts
To view the glens of cattle.

Chorus

8. Hello to the green hills, hilly, hillocky,
Hello to the steep hills, large, knolly,
Hello to the woods, hello to everything,
Oh! I shall be happy dwelling in the corrie.

[edit] Alternate Translation of three verses

1. Soon shall I gaze on the place of my birth again.
There will they welcome me home in the words I ken,
Gift of homecoming and love when I'm come to them,
missed not for mountains of gold.

5. There, shall grave forest and grove to my eye appeear.
There, where the fair fertile leas lie, a belvedere.
There, at the foot of the steep-sided fells,
the deer mist-encloaked mountains enfold.

6. High as the beauty of high ben and high tor,
a host who'll keep place at their hearths as a right for
a Heart that leaps light as my step to the sight, for
amidst of our mountains I'll hold.
