[edit] Economy of Europe

Hi, I noticed you'd got this new article on you 'to do' list, so was wondering if you would add your support to it's nomination for Collaboration of the Week. Simply add your support here. Obviously such a big project needs as many users with relevant knowledge as possible, so hopefully this will promote it a little. Thanks, Grunners 00:45, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Celtic tiger cartoon.jpg

Could you please add copyright license info (and an image tag) to image:Celtic tiger cartoon.jpg - I plan to have it on the main page soon. →Raul654 18:19, Nov 26, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Junior Cert

I'm wondering - what do you think needs to be done to Junior Cert before nomination for WP:FAC? It seems to be in reasonably good shape, but maybe you can see something I have missed. JOHN COLLISON [ Ludraman] 21:13, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar

For your great work writing featured articles such as Celtic Tiger, and for being so nice, I award you this barnstar. Cheers! John

[edit] Indymedia.ie

Lol! That's a good sign, anyway! At the risk of sounding like a self-serving spammer, would you have any interest in getting involved at Wikipedia:Wikiproject Holmes? JOHN COLLISON [ Ludraman] 20:41, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Capitalisation of people in categories

I've noticed that in adding people to categories such as Category:Irish radio personalities and Category:Irish business people you leave them as Firstname Lastname instead of Lastname, Firstname. Is this on purpose? I was about to correct them, but I didn't want to find out there was a reason behind it and leave a big mess... JOHN COLLISON [ Ludraman] 22:32, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Oh, don't you worry about me, CG, you just waltz around and do what ever you want, and I'll just come after you and clean up the mess you've made :-D JOHN COLLISON [ Ludraman] 22:40, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Typical of us Irish, getting dragged into a slagging watch while building an encyclopedia of all things :). Seriously, shouldn't Irish business people be Irish businesspeople? You're the one who's done Junior cert English, so I'll leave it to you! JOHN COLLISON [ Ludraman] 22:47, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Thanks. Nice that it made Main page this centenary year. Filiocht 08:31, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Ulysses

Yes a remarkable book, and funny, too. I try to re-read ever few years and it's definitely my desert-island book. It gets to be heavy going in places, but worth sticking with when it does. I think the layers of meaning get a bit overstated; Joyce used a lot of things (like Homer) to help him structure the book, but the main thing is the writing, and the portrait of a city and a class, the lower-middle class Catholics with a pretension to culture. He also has a few side-swipes at Gaelic-league/IRB type smugness and other aspects of the city that annoyed him. Enjoy. I'll look at Ryanair later today. Filiocht 08:24, Jan 4, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ryanair

Congrats on FA status. Good work. Filiocht 13:24, Jan 7, 2005 (UTC)

A bit belatedly, also wanted to say well done for seeing it through to featured. The article was a woefully short stub when I first noticed it - one of the things that prompted me to start editing. I've enjoyed doing my bit for the article, and it's great to see it make it all the way to featured. Worldtraveller 22:17, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Irish Town Stubs

Hi, I don't want to make you go crazy, but there's a whole big new list of Irish towns that need stubs. When I was working on Mayo, I added a bunch of towns from the Gaelige site. I found a bunch more on the individual county pages. Here's a quick link: Talk:List_of_towns_in_the_Republic_of_Ireland/to_do#Need_articles

[edit] Wikiportal Wikinews

I've started the Ireland Wikiportal page. Please take a look at it and tell me what you think. As you are immensely involved in Wikinews, your contribution to the news portion of the portal is greatly appreciated. One news headline at a time should be sufficient, but if you deem more are helpful, please do so. It should be self evident, but if you decide to help, and need to make any changes this link: edit will work for you. astiquetalk 13:03, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thinking of UCD...

Hi CGorman! Taking this discussion over from the Wikipedia talk:Irish Wikipedians' notice board. I'm happy to share my experiences of UCD. To be honest, over the last few years I've become quite disillusioned with the place. Three reasons: First, my course is done an awful lot better in Trinity. I don't think this applies to you - as far as I know, the commerce course here is as good as it gets, and anyone I've talked to who's done it only has good things to say about it. Second, UCD really is a very large place, and can be frighteningly impersonal. It's not a great place to be if you're a shrinking violet. Again, from your user page you seem to be very confident and outgoing, in which case UCD can be great fun. The best advice I could give you on the social side of living in UCD is to pick one society or club that you are interested in, stick with it, and get involved. That's clichéd advice, I know, but it makes a huge difference to the college experience. Finally Belfield is the ugliest 350 acres in the country - grey concrete as far as the eye can see, so even sunny days seem overcast. OTOH, the commerce building is lovely, (with great facilities) and basically removed from the central campus. I hope I've been helpful - if you've any questions, feel free to ask RMoloney 20:40, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I read about that pool plan in the University Observer. I wouldn't hold my breath (sorry for the pun!), since building is projected to start in 2007, and Hugh Brady, our new president, has a penchant for pie-in-the-sky plans.
I didn't use campus accommodation 'cause I live in cycling distance, but most of my friends did. I think almost all first years who apply get it. They prioritise the placement for freshers, and starting this year, they're aggressively prioritising students from outside of Dublin, so I wouldn't say you'll have a problem. Also, if you manage to get an entrance scholarship (in Science, that was if you got more than 550 points; I'm not sure of the cut-off for commerce), you're guaranteed a place in campus accommodation.
As far as safety goes, bikes are always being stolen on campus. If you have a halfway decent bike, you have to invest in a good lock. The bike thieves that operate on campus are very organised, but there is very little petty vandalism like wheel or saddle removal. There have been a couple of reports of people being attacked while walking through the campus at night, and in the past year, there has been a worrying trend of shop and post office robberies, but by and large, non-bike-related crime isn't a feature of life in Belfield.
And wireless internet - yeah, it exists, and yeah, it's free. The whole Commerce building is set up for it, so it'll probably be really handy for you. I hardly ever use it though, 'cause there's very few other places set up for it (there's one dedicated room for about 20 people, which is right next to the commerce building anyway. Otherwise, there's a few random corridors scattered through various departments), so it's easier for me to use the college computers (which there aren't quite enough of). A big gripe of mine is that you can't get wireless in the main library, which I would have thought was the most natural place for it. You can't get wireless in the campus accommodation either (apart from Glenomena, which is something like 95% postgrads and foreign students). RMoloney 23:00, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
I'm always happy to help, so don't hesitate to ask further questions. Make sure you keep me posted on whatever you decide to do, and best of luck! RMoloney 17:54, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] duplicate content within a page

Hi - There was a mediawiki bug that's recently been fixed that caused content of a page to be duplicated when editing a section. It appears User_talk:CGorman/Archive 1 was affected by this bug. Just letting you know so you can fix it if you care to (I left this message on the Archive page as well). -- Rick Block (talk) 00:28, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Economy of India

Hi, you have done some great work on the Economy of the Republic of Ireland. We have been working on the Economy of India and it would be great if you help us in making it a featured article. It is currently on Peer review, so probably you can comment on it there. BTW, I have based the article's structure mainly on the Economy of the United States & Economy of Africa articles. pamri 17:25, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimedia UK/Wikimania 2006

Hi, this is a circular to Wikipedians in Ireland to draw your attention to Wikimedia UK, where the establishment of a local Wikimedia chapter for the United Kingdom (and possibly for the Republic of Ireland) is being discussed. See the talk page, as well as the mailing list; a meetup will take place to discuss matters in London in September, for anyone who can get there. On another topic, plans are being drawn up for a UK bid for Wikimania 2006, which would be conveniently close to Ireland. On the other hand, Dublin's bid was one of the final three last year - might we bid again? --Kwekubo 03:46, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Music of Nigeria

Hi, you commented previously on a nomination for featured article status for music of Nigeria. I've renominated it with various changes, and would appreciate any comments you might have. I wouldn't normally leave a message like this on peoples' talk pages, but it currently has three supports and no opposes (well, one comment that looks quite a bit like an oppose), and I wouldn't want the nom to fail simply for lack of participation -- I'd rather have vociferous opposition than no reaction. Thanks. Tuf-Kat 06:34, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] New Template for Rivers

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I've been working on a new template to replace River. It's called (details), and I've moved all articles using the old one to the new. I see you're using the old one on a Sandbox page, and it will break when the template is removed. Drop me a line if you have any questions. Thanks, —Papayoung 01:51, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

I listed this for deletion as it didn't work on my PC, or several others I tried. I tried re-encoding it and re-uploading it, which didn't work, so I uploaded a new version completely (Image:Meteorlogopng.png) - RedHotHeat 18:52, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] DCU2

Hi - I went to DCU from 1998-2002 and studied Applied Languages, a course that no longer exists. I found it quite interesting and helped me get a decent job. I'm actually from the local area so I lived at home and don't really know anything about the Student Res coz most of my friends were Dubs too. If you tll me which course you are thinking off at DCU I may be able to fill you in on theexperience you can expect.
