This template is a shortcut template of sorts. It is based on Template:Nft ("national football team"). Cfb stands for college football. It is used thus: Troy Smith plays for {{subst:cfb|Ohio State}}, which comes out as [[Template:Ohio State football|Ohio State]]

Note that most schools are not yet implemented. Note also that because of the naming convention, each link of the form Ohio State football will need a redirect to something like Ohio State Buckeyes football.
