Cerro, Cuba

Cerro is one of the 15 municipalities or boroughs (municipios in Spanish) in the city of Havana, Cuba. Its foundation dates to the year 1803. Two property owners in that locality, Mr. José Maria Rodríguez and Francisco Betancourt, made there their housings, which was rapidly a continued example by many others. In 1807 it was constituted into a town, there being built the first wooded church, which then was replaced by the current parish. It was the place chosen by the wealthy families of the capital to spend the summer. In 1843 there existed 5 big vacation ranch, 23 notable ones for its sumptuousness and 273 private ones of wealthy families. In 1843 its population was 2,125 inhabitants and by 1858, 2,530 stable ones.
