Central National-Gottesman

Central National-Gottesman, Inc. is a diversified corporation that began as a supplier of raw materials for papermaking. They are the largest privately owned marketer of pulp and paper.[citation needed]

Founded in New York City in 1886 as M. Gottesman & Company, the company rose to prominence under D.S. Gottesman in the first half of the twentieth century.

In 1984 they acquired Lindenmeyr Paper Corporation, and in 1988 D.F. Munroe Company. In 1991 they acquired Communication Paper Corporation, and the Perkins & Squier Company in 1998.

The company was helmed by Ira D. Wallach in the late 20th century. His son James G. Wallach was CEO until his death in 1998.
