The Central Bank of Somalia (Somali: Bankiga Dhexe ee Soomaaliya) was established on 1 July 1960 as National Bank of Somalia. In 1968 the Credito Somalo was taken over. In 1971 the commercial banking business was sourced out to the newly formed Somali Savings & Credit Bank whereas the function as a central bank remained with the National Bank. On February 8, 1975 it was renamed to the current name.

Since the collapse of the political system in 1991, it is unclear whether this bank is still working. there is no active website and news about this bank are rare.
