Central Ayrshire 1950 to 1983 (UK Parliament constituency)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Central Ayrshire was a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1950 to 1983. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.
A somewhat similar constituency, also called Central Ayrshire, was created later, in 2005.
As created in 1950 the constituency merged together parts of Bute and Northern Ayrshire and Kilmarnock (UK Parliament constituency). Part of the constituency was returned to Kilmarnock in 1955.
When abolished in 1983 the constituency was largely replaced by Cunninghame South.
