Centennial High School is a high school in Boise, Idaho. Although the school is located in Boise, it is operated by the Meridian School District in nearby Meridian. The school opened in 1987 and serves neighborhoods in Meridian and western Boise. Centennial High School students have posted above average scores on the SAT and ACT than the Idaho average. The school offers Advanced Placement courses in 10 subjects. Some of these courses offer college credit through Boise State University [1] and Northwest Nazarene University.
Centennial features some of the most successful high school sports programs in Idaho. Between 1988 and 2006 Centennial Patriots sports teams won a total of 25 state championships in soccer, wrestling, basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, football, tennis, cross country, and track and field. Centennial's many crowning achievements include the 2003-2004 football season where they had a record of 12-0, and 2007 State Wresting Championship. Individual champions included Shane Stephenson (119 pounds) Avery Garner (135), Kirk Smith (171) and Marshal Pirtz (215).[1] Carter Hurst also made key contributions to the team's state title by majorly upsetting foes and taking third on the stand.
The school's Sweet Liberty Dance Team is a three-time defending national champion (2004, 2005 and 2006). Centennial also has a strong marching band program as well as multiple state championships in academic decathlon, and yearbook competitions. The Drama team has won four years running in the state competition and has currently finished Dracula.
The school newspaper is the Patriot Ledger, which is a member of the High School National Ad Network.
Centennial's local rival is Eagle High School, located in nearby Eagle. Eagle is a fairly new school, replacing the older rival, Meridian High School.
