Centennial C.V.I. is a secondary high school located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1967, it currently has one of the highest academic averages in the city and highest averages in the literacy and EQAO testings.

[edit] History

The school is located in the south side of the city of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Centennial was opened in 1967, 100 years after Canadian Confederation, as indicated by its name and is operated by the Upper Grand District School Board. Centennial is known for its academic reputation--it hosts a variety of extracurricular contests and is known for producing top class university-bound students.

Many Centennial students have gone on to become successful in their careers. A prominent example of this is Victor Davis, who was perhaps, and still is, the greatest Canadian swimmer.

Currently, Centennial is the top-ranked school in the [Upper Grand District School Board] and is one of the top ranked free public secondary institutions in Ontario. Centennial boasts much extracurricular achievements, such as winning the McMaster University BrainBee for three years running, sending many athletes, particularly basketball players, to the national and international high school levels, and more.

[edit] Trivia

  • Centennial was used as the set in the made-for-TV movie, Tagged: The Jonathan Wamback Story (2001), a film depicting the life of victim Jonathan Wamback, an Ontario teen who is attacked by a gang outside his school.
  • On January 17, 2007, Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion visited Centennial to give a short speech on the role of Quebec in Canada and to scout out some...fresh...talent.
