Cementerio de la Almudena

The Cementerio de la Almudena is the largest cemetery in Madrid, and one of the largest in Western Europe. Indeed, the number of its "inhabitants" (probably around five million) now surpasses that of Madrid, since it was the main cemetery for the entire city from 1884 to 1973, and from the 1920s was almost the only one for the majority of the population of Madrid.
An interesting difference between La Almudena and other cemeteries in Western Europe is the surprising lack of knowledge of Madrid citizens about its cemetery compared with Paris or London.
