The story begins as Celeste and her twin brother are introduced to a psychic realm conjured by their mother. Their mother believes spirits inhabit the house they live in the surrounding wooded area. The spirits are believed to be dead relatives who help guide Celeste’s mother through raising her children and making decisions for the family.
Celeste constantly feels that her mother favors her twin brother more than her, no matter how hard she tries to please her. Her mother’s favoritism becomes evident when tragedy befalls the small family and Celeste can do nothing more but cooperate as her mother’s already fragile mind loses a grip on reality. Only Celeste and her mother know the secret behind her and her twin brother’s true identity.
