CEITEC
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Centro de Excelência em Tecnologia Eletrônica Avançada (CEITEC - Excellence Center for Advanced Electronic Technology) is a Brazilian technology center specialized in project development and fabrication in microelectronics, i.e. integrated circuits, or "chips". This center is one of the agents for the Brazilian Microelectronics Program (PNM - Programa Nacional de Microeletrônica).
The main objective of CEITEC is to provide an incentive to the production of semiconductor components and microeletronics education. This project is part of the technology and industrial development policy of the federal Brazilian government. The initiative is a result of a partnership between governmental entities, universities, research centers and companies and will be operating in Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul in a 13,650 m² facility divided into:
[edit] Foundry and research
Composed of:
- Cleanroom for prototyping and IC fabrication
- Support area
- Development labs
- Utilities center
[edit] Operational center
- Design house, where the projects will be developed
- Administration
With the equipment donated by Motorola, CEITEC will implement initially a 0.8 micrometre CMOS technology, single poly, with two metal layers. The major goal of the production is the IC prototyping in 6 inch (150 mm) wafers. In a second phase the production of 0.5 micrometre CMOS and posteriorly 0.35 micrometre is planned.
[edit] Objectives
[edit] General
- To offer infrastructure in form of labs, equipments and human resources to companies, research and development (R&D) centers and universities in order to promote the microelectronic technology in Brazil.
- Stimulate the local development in microelectronic projects and education, which implies new qualified jobs and income distribution.
[edit] Specific
- Support human resources qualification in integrated circuit production processes;
- Provide integrated circuit production services to industries and for scientific and technological research purposes;
- Establish an effort to attract, consolidate and create enterprises with a high technology profile in the electronic market complex;
- Stimulate the construction of a national network of technological services, enabling the qualification of electronics products and processes;
- Offer physical infra-structure and technical support for technology and product development in microelectronics;
- Transfer technology on microelectronics to companies in the electronics sector for the competitive qualification of products, processes, and services;
- Enlarge the supply chain for equipment made in Brazil.
