[edit] History

The school was the brainchild of former superintendent Aurelio Tiro, who envisioned a school similar to the Philippine Science High School system. The school's founding principal, Rosalina Kintanar, put together 64 academically exceptional students around the region in the school.

As the year progressed, the school began to show its talents around Cebu, bagging several awards in contests. There have also been increases in the student population, from the former 64 students, to 140 during the 90's and then 175 during the 2005-2006 academic year. This school is a public school. The names of its 1st year sections are names of planets. The names of its 2nd year sections are scientific names of plants. The names of its 3rd year sections are names of noble gases. The names of its 4th year sections are names of scientists. Its school paper is the "Scholars Voice".

[edit] Competitions

The school has had to keep with a tradition of excellence in various competitions ranging from the regionals to the nationals and even at one point in their collective golden years - representing the nation in international academic Olympiads. In the last fifteen years, the school has reaped awards in national competitions like the Intel Philippine Science Fair and the Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs in the Philippines to name a few.

[edit] Sections

CCNSHS previously had 2 sections for each year level. Since then, it has grown to 3, then 4, and currently, 5. The recent change of having 5 sections per year level was implemented only 2 years ago. So, currently, only the first and second year levels have 5 section each.

For the first year level, the sections are Earth, Mercury, Neptune, Saturn, and Venus. For the second year level, the sections are Averrhoa, Hibiscus, Ixora, Oryza, and Zea. For the third level, the sections are Argon, Helium, Krypton, and Neon. For the fourth year level, the sections are Copernicus, Einstein, Galileo, and Newton.

Each section has a maximum number of 35 students, with an exception of transferees and the like. However, the number of students may decrease for the second, third, and fourth year sections because of elimination of students due to academic and behavioral problems.
