One of the most high profile TDs in the constituency is the current Ceann Comhairle (speaker) of the Dáil, Rory O'Hanlon. Another well known deputy from the area is Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, the first modern Sinn Féin TD to take his seat in the Dáil.

[edit] 2007 General Election
If Rory O'Hanlon maintains his position as Ceann Comhairle until the dissolution of the 29th Dáil (which must happen by May 2007) then he may choose to nominate himself for the new Dáil, in which case he will be deemed to be returned unopposed and the constituency will be treated as a four seater for the purposes of calculating the quota.
