The Calvacade of Lights Festival takes place in Toronto every year, and runs from November 23rd to December 23rd on the Old City Hall and various other sites.

The opening ceremony takes place in Nathan Phillips Square, on November 23rd, and ends with a large display of fireworks launched from the new City Hall building, after the light show on the old City Hall building.

The lights on the large Christmas tree in Nathan Phillips Square, and the other Christmas lights (blue and white LEDs) are also switched on for the first time each year during this ceremony.

The light show is generated from five large projectors, each the size of a small building placed up on top of the East viewing gallery in Nathan Philips Square, projecting across the street to the old city hall building.

[edit] Arrangement of projectors

The projectors are arranged so that they each cover a separate portion of the building, with four projectors lighting up the face of the building and one lighting up the clock tower. The leftmost projector does not cover the leftmost side of the building, but, rather, it covers the second leftmost portion, whereas the second projector from the left covers the leftmost portion, as shown below: Image:Cavalcade of lights projectors.png

[edit] Times that the light show runs

After the opening ceremony, the light show runs every night until December 23rd, at the following times: 5:30pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm, 8:30pm, 9:30pm, 10:30pm

[edit] Power requirements

The electrical power connects to the Cam Lok connectors in Nathan Philips Square by way of four 2/0 gauge wires plus a ground connected to the steel fence at the edge of Nathan Philips Square.

However, because this power is insufficient, a second power source comprises a rented power generator parked across the road from Old City Hall, and also supplying a second set of four similar wires plus a fifth ground wire.
