[edit] Early years

Cause & Effect were formed in Sacramento, California consisting of founding members vocalist/guitarist Rob Rowe and keyboardist Sean Rowley. They originally released their debut in 1990 as a self-titled album on minor label Exile Records, which was subsequently picked up by BMG Music and re-released in 1991 as "Another Minute" after some re-work. The re-released album spawned two top-ten dance singles ("What Do You See" and "You Think You Know Her") and a Billboard Top 20 Singles hit ("You Think You Know Her"). "What Do You See" peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Charts. "You Think You Know Her" peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #9 on the Hot Dance Club Play Charts. The album "Another Minute" itself peaked at #75 on the Hot 100 and at #31 on the Hot Dance Club Play Charts.

[edit] Death of Rowley

Just as the fortunes of the band looked promising, co-founding member Sean Rowley passed away in November 1992, while on tour as the opening act for Information Society. Rowley died immediately before the tour's seventh show in Minneapolis, Minnesota of heart failure brought on by a severe asthma attack.

[edit] The re-imagined band

After a period of contemplation and an invitation to the sold-out KROQ Acoustic Christmas Show, Rowe decided to continue the band's efforts with keyboardist Keith Milo and drummer Richard Shepherd. In 1994 the re-imagined band released their second album "Trip" which was received with critical acclaim. The album spawned the single "It’s Over Now" which reached the #7 spot on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and became C&E's fourth single to chart in the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.

Following the closure of the band's indie label Zoo Entertainment, C&E decided to utilize alternative methods of distribution and simultaneously established their official online website and label Liquifaction in 1996. The band released their third album effort "Innermost Station" in 1997 (re-released in 1999).

The band released the "The Sunrise" EP in 2003, and a new album is expected in early 2007.
