Caulfield Autumn Classic

The Caulfield Autumn Classic is a Group 2 Australian thoroughbred horse race held under set weight conditions, for colts and geldings aged 3 years, over a distance of 1800m.
It is held at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne.

1957 - 1970 held over 10 furlongs (approx. 2000m)
1971 held over 9 furlongs (approx. 1800m)
1972 held over 10 furlongs (approx. 2000m)
1973 - 1986 held over 2000m
1987 onwards held over 1800m
1957 – 1978 was a Principal Race
1979 – 1988 was a Listed Race
1989 – 1990 was a Group 3
1991 onwards Group 2
1957 - 1986 the race was known as the ‘Stanley Plate’
1987 - 1990 the race was known as the ‘Caulfield Autumn Classic’
1991 the race was known as the ‘Tattersalls Classic’ 1991 - 1997 the race reverted back to the ‘Caulfield Autumn Classic’
1998 - 2000 the race was known as the ‘AAMI Classic’
2001 - 2004 the race was known as the ‘Shannons Classic’
2005 onwards the race has reverted back to the ‘Caulfield Autumn Classic’
