How many links are required to remove the orphaned page status? --Growly 18:43, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

On the matter of importance:

  • A Google search turned up 136,000 hits for cat-like aliens and 500,000 for feline aliens.
  • Cat-like Aliens have appeared in many sections of the sci-fi genre, including (but not limited to) books, television shows and movies - including some of the most well known science fiction staples, such as Star Trek.
  • The article is incomplete, yet currently includes 26 different types of cat-like aliens (as well as two species which do not match all of the criteria, yet may be lumped into the category regardless of this fact). There are several others which have yet to be added.
  • While some of these species and characters have been added to the "fictional cats" listing, they are not actually cats at all and thus should be categorized accordingly. There are also several entries where the "cat-like" similiarities are related to behaviour and not appearance, which would not be included in the fictional cats category.
  • On popularity: With the wide variety of cat-like aliens, it's likely that most science fiction fans (whether they prefer books, shows or games) know of at least one species of feline alien. This listing also serves to assist those who are seeking other items along the same vein which may be more obscure - for example, fans of Larry Niven's Known Space who might find C.J. Cherryh's Chanur novels to be to their tastes.

[edit] Propose keeping

This page does provide a convenient subpage for the existing List of fictional cats. Also, although I myself am a lot less active in the cats project right now than is probably good, I think that, as I get all the links on the aforementioned page put in, I may try to establish a link to here from that page. It might take a while, though. Badbilltucker 14:39, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cat-like alien race?

I recall a catlike alien race in the Battlecruiser (video game) universe...they were either called the Vesperons or the Empirians...I can't remember. Can anyone else? Antimatter---talk--- 06:20, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Prod removal

There is unfortunately a pronounded difference between List of fictional cats, which lists fictional cats in a fictional setting, and cat-like aliens, which are aliens which share some felid characteristics. Among other things, this article is something which the new science fiction project is probably interested in, while the other is not. Also, "cat-like" is pronouncedly different from being a cat. I have added the SF Project banner to this page, in the hope that they, who are probably more directly interested in this article, will give it the attention it needs. [edit] Merging or moving

I agree with the suggestion that this article could be merged into Extraterrestrial life in popular culture. If not, it should be moved to List of fictional cat-like aliens. Jobjörn (Talk ° contribs) 17:38, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Disagree; feline aliens are a common enough trope to warrant their own article, being at least as archetypal as reptilian humanoids. The fact that there are so many of them, and that they are so recognizable to SF fans, should warrant a separate page. As for moving, that would simply ammount to a meaningless name change. Keep as is. Noclevername 21:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
