Cathie Craigie

Cathie Craigie MSP (born April 14, 1954, Stirling) is a Scottish Labour politician, and Member of the Scottish Parliament for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth constituency since 1999. She was re-elected in 2003 with a majority of 520 votes.

Educated at Kilysth Academy, she was council leader of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth from 1994 to 1996. She is a member of various committees at the Scottish Parliament, sitting on the Communities Committee and the Procedures Committee, as well as acting as a substitute member of the Justice 2 Committee. She was the first woman to successfully steer a Member's Bill, The Mortgage Rights (Scotland) Act, which provides greater protection for those facing repossession, through the parliament. Cathie is the convenor of the Cross-Party group on Deafness, and is particularly interested in issues about health, housing and social justice.

Cathie was unanimously re-selected by the local Labour party to stand in the forthcoming 2007 Scottish Parliament election on 3 May 2007.
