Catherine Curran O'Malley

Catherine "Katie" Curran O'Malley (born August 18, 1962) is a Maryland state judge and the wife of Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, and the daughter of former state Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr..
Her educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Towson State University and a law degree from the University of Baltimore. While attending law school, she met and married fellow law student Martin O'Malley in 1990, with whom she has four children, Grace, Tara, William, and Jack. Upon graduation from law school in 1991, she accepted a job as an Assistant State Attorney in Baltimore County, Maryland, serving in that post until her appointment as a judge. In August 2001, then-Governor Parris Glendening (D) appointed her to a ten-year term as an Associate Judge for the First District Court of Maryland, encompassing the City of Baltimore. In January 2007, she became First Lady of Maryland, assuming that role when her husband, Martin O'Malley, took office as Governor. In a 2007 Baltimore Sun interview, Mrs. O'Malley acknowledged that she was pregnant at her wedding to Martin O'Malley. 1 Her predecessor as First Lady of Maryland is Kendel Sibiski Ehrlich, wife of former Governor Robert Ehrlich.
