The Cathedral and John Connon School was formed in 1922, as a 'grand alliance' of the Cathedral Boys' and Girls' schools of Mumbai, and of the Scottish schools of the city. The earliest of its components was a Cathedral grammar school founded in 1860. It is affiliated with the ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) and ISC boards of the Indian Government.

[edit] Philosophy

In the words of Mr. Gunnery, one of the school's eminent principals, "the School is a place where everything that goes on bears the stamp of the Cathedral School character and tradition Our education is international. We are an Indian school where foreigners are at home, a Christian school which children of any faith can call their own.

"Indeed the School's objective is all round character formation and the development of proper attitudes. Consciously and unconsciously, pupils absorb a great deal apart from subjects they study and in the great examinations of Life, it is these extra assimilations which speak a school's worth."

The motto of the school is 'Clarum Efficiunt Studia'. This is in Latin and in English means 'Studies Maketh Famous'.

[edit] Organization

The school has a house system that is introduced from Grade 3 (though only the activities of grades 8-12 count towards the house championship tally). The four houses are(in alphabetical order) Barham, Palmer, Savage and Wilson named after the founders of the school- Cannon Barham, Bishop Palmer, Arthur Savage and Percival Wilson.

The school currently has four buildings - the Infant School, Junior School, Middle School and Senior School. Recently, the Cathedral and John Connon also opened a nursery on the property of the St. Thomas' Cathedral at Fort in Mumbai.

[edit] Academics and Future Studies

The school follows the ICSE curriculum until Std. 10 and the ISC curriculum in Std. 11 & 12. Both are examinations of the CISCE, a Delhi-based educational council. After finishing the 12th standard, Cathedralites pursue further studies in India or abroad. In India students have entered into prestigious institutions such as St. Stephen's College, IIT, IIM and St. Xaviers College. A large number of Cathedralites study and have studied at renowned foreign universities as well.
