Cathal Casey

Cathal Casey (born 4 September 1967) is former Irish sportsperson whol played hurling with Cork in the 1990s.

Cathal Casey was born in Cork in 1967. From a young age he showed skill at the game of hurling and quickly joined his local club St. Catherine's. Casey attended University College Cork where he won four Fitzgibbon Cups with the college. At inter-county level Casey has had success at all levels. In 1985 he won an All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship title with Cork. The following year he made his senior debut in the National Hurling League against Galway. In 1988 he won an All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship with Cork before making his Munster Championship debut against Waterford in 1989. In 1990 Casey won his first Munster Senior Hurling Championship medal, as well as his first All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship medal. He came on as a substitute in both games. Two years later he was a regular on the team and won his second Munster title. Cork were defeated by Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. The following year Casey claimed a NAtional League medal. In 2006 he was named as a selector on the Cork senior hurling team under the new management of Gerald McCarthy. Casey won an All-Star Award in 1991
