[edit] First multiplayer Castlevania game?

First multiplayer Castlevania game? Uh, Dawn of Sorrow had a multiplayer feature.

[edit] Stylus Usage?

Some of Charlotte's magical skills could possibly be controlled by the stylus, as indicated by her lightning technique.

This bit right here doesn't seem right. I've already played the game thru, 100% and none of CHARLOTTE's skills use the stylus. The two lightning skills are "Lightning Bolt" and "Chain Lightning". Lightning bolt is automatically aimed, and Chain lightning literally jumps its way between enemies, without stylus use.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

However, after beating "Johnathan Mode", you can play "Sisters Mode", as Stella and Loretta. Their game play REQUIRES the stylus for all attacks.

Spoilers end here.

Point being, I don't see where Charlotte's magic uses the stylus. RaptorFB 03:37, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I agree with Raptor, I've played through. Stylus use is 100% optional for the main game, the only use it has in the main game, is to tell your partner where to stand when they are active, and it is nearly always useless. The line about Charlotte's magic can be dropped, and mention of stylus use is unnecessary, except for possibly a separate section, which Raptor mentioned under his spoiler tag. 198.49.142.101 06:05, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

This issue has been corrected.RaptorFB 05:02, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spolier tags needed

When I first revised the Cast list, I tried to make it spoiler-free and base the characters on the descriptions from the game manual. Now, however, someone found it necessary to supplement the information with stuff the player learns later in the game, and are thus spoilers. So, I propose we add spoiler tags. Anyone agree? 64.121.35.146 02:42, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I agree COMPLETELY. Knowing the characters' full names is a gigantic plot twist, perhaps even the most major twist of the game. Stumbling upon that could ruin the entire experience, even before the spoiler tags! (I'm mainly refrring to the Table of Contents that appears before the spoiler tags. It mirrors the cast names.) Jaron99 01:58, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I was reading over the "Gameplay" and "Hidden Characters" sections and I noticed that there is quite a bit of spoiler information in there. I didn't want to just added in spoiler tags around those parts or just move the spoiler end tag below the hidden characters, then most of the articles would be labeled as spoilers. What does everyone think of moving the information about the endings into its own section and adding spoilers tags around that and the "Hidden Characters". Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 15:31, 20 February 2007 (UTC))
*SORRY*, please disregard the above comment. I just looked over the page and saw the spoiler end tag at the end of the "Hidden Characters" section. (Guyinblack25 15:45, 20 February 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Release Date?

I just looked at FYE.com, they are saying the release date is November 22 and not December 5, can someone change that if it's true?

I know that the big retailer EB games is showing A Dec 5 release. It is possible that FYE hasn't updated yet. Bmecoli 07:12, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

On www.dvdcrave.com.au, you can preorder portrait of ruin and the website says that the shipping date is November 28.. i checked gamespot and it says December 5 for North America, TBA for Euro area, and February 2007 for australia. 202.6.138.34 09:07, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

It seems as though Gamestop/EB games is now showing a December 12th release date. This the only source though, as other sources, including the official Konami web page, are still stating the 5th. I'll update once more sources say the 12th, if that's correct and it actually has been delayed (yet again) Bmecoli 06:13, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

The real release date is December 12th, I reserved it at gamestop the other day and they told me that was the offical release date. It should be changed in the main article.

[edit] Preorder bonus

Hello.
I had to remove the 'preorder bonus' section entirely.
Whoever added it simply copy&pasted from ign.com, word for word.
However, the concept is still very much pertinent and worth mentioning.
If someone could find a way to re-add it, but without plagiarizing, that'd be downright spiffy.
Here's the article

I'll go ahead and add it. Where should this be added? I'm thinking either before or after the Reception section. I actually have it so I could get a picture or something of it (dunno if that's necessary though), but I can go into a bit more detail about every piece included in the preorder bonus as well as the packaging and such. AnujSuper9 05:17, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Yep well, I added it. Lemme know what you think. AnujSuper9 23:44, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fan Reception

Perhaps something should be added to the Reception section about the largely negative attention this game received on many large message boards such as 4chan. Longtime fans of the Castlevania series are particularly put off by the dreadful artwork created for this game. 24.80.108.220 23:19, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Be that as it may with the artwork, the in-game sprites are the same styale as SOTN and whatnot. Also, there are a lot of forums where the game is praised by players. Then GameFAQ's tends to support it and hate it equally at times. Let's wait until the game has had more time to "cool" and see where opinions lie.
Agreed. Best to give it a bit of time before adding an entry for the fan reception. Bladestorm 03:34, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I've also read, on numerous occasions, complaints about it's overall lack of connection to its prequel, Castlevania: Bloodlines. They once again cut and paste enemy sprites from Rondo and Symphony yet the game lacks enemies exclusive to the Genesis game. Another complaint I've heard is the unnecessary usage of Richter Belmont and Maria from Rondo as playable characters, and John Morris and Eric Lecarde, from Bloodlines, would make the connection between the prequel and sequel much stronger. [edit] Orlean or Aulin?

As the page is, it constantly refers to the female lead as Charlotte Orlean, with only one sentence saying "Known as Aulin in the American release." I'm not well-versed in the rules of Wikipedia, but I'm fairly certain the character should be referred to as Aulin throughout the article, with at most a sentence saying "known as Orlean in the Japanese release." I have a feeling that section of the article was written/edited by a fan who preferred the Japanese name. Besides, isn't "Orlean" just Engrish for advertising? Her actual name in the game would translate to something like Aarin, right?

Oh yeah, I don't mind correcting this myself, but I didn't want to do it without asking. So don't feel obliged to go and do it for me.RubilacEx 21:57, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Get rid of the "known as whatever..." sentence entirely and just change everything to Aulin. I checked IGN and it said her name was Orlean, so I figured that's what it was (I don't have the game). -- Tenks 22:52, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
In Wikipedia, the US renditions of names are used. For example, Trevor Belmont is Ralph Belmont in Japan - they use Trevor for him on Wikipedia (the English version at least). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.160.96.111 (talk) 04:36, 17 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Lecarde or LeCarde

Same as Orlean or Aulin. Which one is more perferable? As names should remain consistant throughout the entire article

Lecarde, since that's how the game spells it.172.143.81.214 14:41, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nevermind

scratch this. I just finished it.

Just a slight mistake: The article says that in order to unlock the Old Axe Armor all you have to do is save with 1,000 old axe armor kills, but actually you have to save with that many kills and then beat the game, getting the good ending to unlock it. You can even verify this in is faq - http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/castlevania_por_oaa.txt.

Not a biggie, just could use a fixin'

[edit] Didn't Brauner? And other things.

I'm pretty sure Brauner actually did refer to Charlotte as a child as well, indirectly, anyways. Also, another thing I don't think was noted was the Weapons systwem. I may be wrong, though. 71.17.77.103 20:41, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hidden Characters Section...

First, in the mention of Old Axe Armor in the Hidden Characters section, this section is the only section that makes note of how in the mode only health and magic upgrades can be collected, while in all three bonus character modes this is the case. I feel that this makes the implication that only Old Axe Armor mode has this, which isn't at all true. Second, about Old Axe Armor, it makes reference to the similarity of Joachim in Castlevania Lament of Innocence, when a more proper referral would be to either Julius Mode in Dawn of Sorrows, or even better yet, Castlevania Bloodlines for the Genesis, where this is even how the main game played where pausing the game simply Paused the game and didn't go into any sub menu or equipment or anything. Also, I wonder if the fact that Old Axe Armor was also a playable character (sorta) in Castlevania Symphony of the Night (as the name Axe Lord Armor) should be mentioned, and that the character is female. [edit] Needs a Development section

In order for this game article to be of GA Status or FA Status, it needs a development section. Every person who has ever reviewed a game article I've worked on has said this, so I think we should do it for this game too. However, the problem is that you guys wiped out the information with all your edits. I'm going to start a new Development section, but I will need help. If you decide to help out, then let me tell you my plan for finding development information on the game. I will search at the GameSpot and IGN articles for these games. They will have a News section. And I'll use that. I will also go through this article's Edit History and look for any External Links to sites that may have had development news regarding the game. Feel free to help out if you can. [edit] Sister's Mode %

Does anyone know whats the high percentage one can get in sisters mode since 1000% completion of the map isn't possible? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.31.45.49 (talk) 13:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC).
