This is the coat of arms of the Comune of Casale Monferrato, Italy.
The crown is that of a marquis[1] and refers to the Marquessy of Monferrat of which Casale was capital under the House of Paleologi. The insignia of the Paleologi (with the Bs) is quartered with that of the Aleramici, the previous rulers of Montferrat. The ‘Christogram’ (IHS) is present as the emblem of San Bernardino da Siena whose visit in 1435 is said to have brought to an end various feuds in the the town.
