Castletown Shoppingworld
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Castletown Shoppingworld is Townsville, Australia's second biggest shopping centre. Castletown, as it is known as by the locals, has three major tenants and 88 specialty stores. It is currently owned by the McConaghy property group.
[edit] Expansion
Castletown is currently undergoing expansion to include a new modern Target department store (replacing the existing store) and an extra 40 specialty stores and a 400-seat food court.
The last expansion that the shopping centre undertook was in 1997, with the addition of an expanded Woolworths Supermarket and an Action Supermarket. Basement parking was also included.
In 2005, Centre owners McConaghy properties, brought out many properties on the adjacent side of Barryman street, the southern border of the shopping centre complex. It is assumed that Barryman St will be realigned over the existing properties to allow expansion of the centre at a latter date.
The current expansion is due to open around mid-2007.
