Castlemaine Football Club

The Castlemaine Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia.

It is a member of the Bendigo Football League.

Formed in 1859, it is the second-oldest football club in Australia one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

The club was founded at the Supreme Court Hotel (now Heron's Gallery) on June 15, 1859 - a month before the Geelong Football Club.

Formed in the era before codified rules, but Australian rules was popular in the goldfields region.

Without a league, the club was on and off during its first decade.

The club was a foundation club of the Victorian Football Association after it was reformed in 1871.

The original uniform was a white cap with royal-blue Maltese cross. Now wears vertical black and white stripes.

In 1925, Castlemaine joined the Bendigo Football League.
