On the territory of the municipality of Westerlo (Westerloo, using the old spelling) there are several castles.

[edit] Castle of the Princes de Mérode
Locals call it: "Oud Kasteel" (Old Castle)
The central part or Donjon was built in the 14th-century. Other parts of the building date from the 16th century and has undergone several restorations and addings during the 17th to 19th centuries. The castle is the home of the family of the princes de Mérode-Westerloo since more than five centuries.

Locals call it: "Nieuw Kasteel" (New Castle)
It was built between 1910-1912 in a neogothic style by architect Pierre Langerock. It was purchased by the municipality of Westerlo used as the town hall of Westerlo.

In nearby Tongerlo Built during and after the First World War by a noble family. Now owned by the de Meeûs d'Argenteuil family.

Built in the 1920s by a wealthy family of notaries and local administrators.
