[edit] Castle FM - Carrick Star

Castle FM continues to enjoy huge success thanks to its Young Star talent search, a concept developed by founder Stuart Robinson. Castle FM is the official home of the 'Carrick Star' which has been running since 2002 and proven a massive hit with local listeners. The contest has since spread to North Down and Newtownabbey with plans underway for further development to other regions of the province in 2007. In 2006 'Carrick Star' was sponsored by Carrickfergus Borough Council as a stand alone event during the towns annual May Day Festival. Donald Montgomery and Chenelle Duffrin were the eventual winners in their respective senior and junior categories.

[edit] Background

Castle FM started life as Radio Carrickfergus in 1998 operated by Galax. In 2000 the station was taken over by Radio Carrickfergus presenter Stuart Robinson on behalf of Belfast CityBeat and re-launched as Carrick Vibe FM, before changing to Castle FM in 2002. In 2005 Stuart Robinson acquired full control of Castle FM under his own company 'Event Radio Services'. Castle FM last broadcast during August 2005. In 2006 Stuart Robinson also acquired the broadcast licence for Bangor FM in County Down. Bangor FM had also previously operated through Belfast CityBeat in 2004.
