Cassendre Xavier

Cassendre Xavier a.k.a. Amethyste Rah (born in Brooklyn, New York on February 7, 1969) is an award-winning singer, guitarist, songwriter, multi-genre writer, visual artist, actor, and community arts organizer. She is known as a prolific independent recording artist (having released seven albums between 2002 and 2006) and has a devoted following due to her having founded several Philadelphia women's arts initiatives. These include the Women's Writing & Spoken Word Series (Robin's Bookstore 2002-2006) and the annual Black Women's Arts Festival a.k.a. BWAF Philly, which debuted in 2003.
