Casa Monica Hotel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Casa Monica Hotel is a historic hotel located in St. Augustine, Florida, in the United States. It was built by Franklin Smith in 1888. Soon after completing the hotel Smith ran into financial difficulties and sold it to oil and railroad tycoon Henry Flagler. Flagler, also a famous hotelier who already owned two hotels in St. Augustine, the Ponce de Leon and the Hotel Alcazar, had limited success with the hotel. After several years the hotel declined as its affluent guests began to summer further south in Palm Beach, where Flagler built the ultra posh hotel The Breakers. Restored in 1999 to its former glory, the hotel is located at the corner of King and Cordova Streets, and is the only hotel in St. Augustine to be given AAA's Four-Diamond award. The hotel has a moorish-style appearance with Spanish architecture.

The Casa Monica Hotel is part of the Kessler Collection owned by Richard Kessler.
